Jun. 2—Flames overtook three houses in the San Jose foothills on Sunday, officials said.
Three people were displaced from their homes after flames overtook a residential garage on Sand Point Drive in the Holly Oak neighborhood and spread to other nearby homes around 5 p.m., San Jose Fire Department spokesperson Jake Pisani said.
"Despite hot and windy conditions, firefighters did well to limit damage to three homes," Pisani told the Chronicle.
The structure fires were "in close proximity" to one another, Pisani said. Six total structures were involved across two residential blocks, including the homes plus garages and sheds, Pisani said. The structures were all successfully evacuated, and no injuries were reported, he said.
Fire captain Thomas Lo said the cause of the initial fire remains under investigation.
A Pacific Gas and Electric live stream appeared to show smoke from a fire billowing across the San Jose foothills Sunday afternoon. The smoke appeared to originate east of Mount Hamilton, home to the Lick Observatory, an astronomical center operated by the University of California.
The fires erupted one day after the outbreak of the fast-moving Corral Fire in San Joaquin County, which forced evacuations Saturday around Tracy.
